Members back dropping men-only rule in place for 193 years, after Guardian revealed details of membership list
The men-only Garrick Club has finally voted to allow women to become members, 193 years after the London institution first opened its doors.
The vote was passed with 59.98% of votes in favour at the end of a private meeting where several hundred members spent two hours debating the merits of permitting women to join.

Israel says it is beginning mission to ‘take out’ Hamas brigades in city, as aid officials say flow of supplies through crossing has halted
Israeli military forces have taken control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, Israeli officials have said, in the first stage of what appears to be a wider offensive targeting Hamas in the southernmost parts of Gaza.
“This is the beginning of our mission to take out the last four Hamas brigades in Rafah. You should be in no doubt about that whatsoever,” an Israeli government spokesperson said.

Boy aged five months who was taken to hospital after incident on Thursday died on Sunday
A baby who suffered a cardiac arrest at Legoland Windsor Resort has died, police have said.
The five-month-old was seriously injured on Thursday in what Thames Valley police have called a “neglect incident”. The child died in hospital on Sunday. A 27-year-old woman from Essex was arrested on suspicion of neglect shortly after the incident.

Holly LeGresley, 37, whose username was ‘The Immolator’, uploaded images and videos to online group
A British woman has pleaded guilty to being part of a global monkey torture network.
Holly LeGresley, 37, from Kidderminster in Worcestershire, admitted uploading 22 images and 132 videos of monkeys being tortured to an online chat group.

National Crime Agency says it has identified Russian national behind dangerous cybercrime group
The alleged leader of what was once the world’s largest ransomware outfit, LockBit, has been named as Russian national Dmitry Khoroshev by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), after the seizure of the criminal gang’s infrastructure.
Khoroshev, who lived his online life under the name LockBitSupp, has been sanctioned by the UK, US and Australia as a result of the unmasking.

Shadow chancellor and London mayor admit party’s local election losses were linked to its response to Middle East conflict
Two of Labour’s most senior figures have admitted the party has lost the trust of some voters over its response to the Israel-Gaza conflict and will have to “engage and listen” to win them back.
Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, expressed her regret over people who “couldn’t bring themselves” to back Labour at last week’s local elections, while London mayor Sadiq Khan said the whole party had to regain lost trust.

The new Scottish National party leader John Swinney will become Scotland’s seventh first minister after winning the backing of MSPs.
As is traditional, opposition leaders stood against Swinney in the vote, which he won just eight days after Humza Yousaf dramatically announced his departure, with the backing of 64 SNP MSPs, while the seven Scottish Greens abstained.
